  • THEA 3243 - Acting for the Camera


    Credits: 3 Spring, Odd

    This course teaches the foundational techniques and terminology for effective performance in front of the camera. Student projects might include assignments in various media including film, television, live broadcast, and/or social media.

    Prerequisites: THEA 1253 .
  
  • THEA 3301 - Advanced Theatre Practicum


    Credits: 1 Fall, Spring

    This laboratory course provides students with advanced training in the practices and procedures in all area of technical production, rehearsal, and performance for every dramatic or musical play in the OBU mainstage season. Student will develop leadership skills through supervisory crew assignments in all areas of production. May be repeated for credit up to 3 times. Three semesters of THEA 3301 are required in the BA Theatre Arts degree.

  • THEA 3403 - Design for the Theatre


    Credits: 3 Spring, Even

    This course will develop the students’ knowledge and application of the skills, materials and processes employed in theatrical design. The class will approach these through visual research, labs in drafting, sketching, painting and modeling techniques, and through the complete design process.

    Prerequisites: THEA 1513  , THEA 2523 THEA 2603  
  
  • THEA 3583 - Directing for the Camera


    Credits: 3 Fall, Odd

    This course provides students with fundamental principles and practical techniques of directing narrative fiction in film: script development and analysis, production planning, shot composition and framing, and working with actors and crew.

    Prerequisites: THEA 3243  
  
  • THEA 3753 - Voice for Performance


    Credits: 3 Spring, Even

    This course includes the study and exploration of the voice as an artistic resource for the performer. Emphasis is placed on the demands of stage speech.

  
  • THEA 3900 - Advanced Theatre Workshop


    Credits: 0 Fall, Spring

    Regular workshops are presented by faculty, guest artists, and selected students from the various performance and technical theatre courses. A specified number of these workshops are required of all theatre degree candidates for four semesters.

    This course is taken in the fall and spring semesters of the junior and senior years.

  
  • THEA 4329 - Advanced Topics in Theatre


    Credits: 1 to 4 On Demand

    This is an advanced course in a selected area of Theatre. Not for independent study.

    Prerequisites: junior standing.
  
  • THEA 4603 - Survey of Theatre History


    Credits: 3 Spring, Odd

    This course studies the history of theatre and its performance traditions from their origins. Particular attention will be paid to the social, cultural, and aesthetic milieu of significant theatrical periods.

    Prerequisites: Junior standing or Instructor approval.
  
  • THEA 4613 - History of Christianity and Theatre


    Credits: 3 Spring, Even

    This course provides an examination of the nature and heritage of drama as it relates to the Christian church. Students will investigate various ethical and aesthetic questions surrounding the intersection of faith and the arts. The course is designed for both theatre majors and non-majors.

  • THEA 4633 - Play Writing and Development


    Credits: 3 Fall, Even

    This is a course in conceiving, writing, and developing scripts for theatre. It covers approaches to outlining, writing, and refining scripts as well as proper formats and techniques for professional scriptwriters. This course also covers developing strategies for potential scriptwriters.

    Prerequisites: ENGL 1153 ENGL 1163  
  
  • THEA 4801 - Theatre Capstone


    Credits: 1 Fall, Spring

    With theatre faculty approval, students will select and successfully complete a project that integrates the various facets of theatre arts. Objectives, goals and deadlines are established by the student and instructor.

    Prerequisites: Instructor approval
  
  • THEA 4999 - Independent Study in Theatre


    Credits: 1 to 4 On Demand

    Independent study for juniors and seniors with at least a B average in Theatre.

    Prerequisites: approval of the dean and completion of a 4999 Independent Study form.
