ECED 4143 - Literacy P-3: Learning to Read


Credits: 3 Spring

Introduction to the professional life of a teacher of reading, developmental stages of young learners, components of reading, and most common approaches for teaching reading and underlying theories of learning. Instruction includes but is not limited to the study of the typically developing young reader and strategies to meet needs. An emphasis is placed on phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, specific learning disabilities including dyslexia, second language learners, current reading legislation, and basal reader approach. Prerequisites: ECED 2082  and admission to Teacher Education Program.
