EDUC 6093 - Trauma-Informed Pedagogy Credits: 3 Fall
This course explores the impact of trauma on the child/adolescent’s development, relationships, behavior, learning and academic performance. Trauma, chronic fear and stress impact children’s neurobiological development which affects critical brain functions such as memory, language, problem-solving, higher order thinking, and executive function skills. The support a child/adolescent receives from those in the school community heavily influences the trauma response and forward growth. Trauma sensitive approaches, coping skills, and social skills are key concepts in this course. School and system-wide crisis prevention, intervention and postvention planning and implementation will also be reviewed.
