HIST 3123 - East Asia: Culture and Politics Credits: 3 Spring, Odd
This course examines the modern history of East Asia, including the evolving cultural and political influence of China in the region; China’s rise as an international commercial power; the growing independence and cultural development of Japan during the Tokugawa era; the response of China, Japan, and Korea to growing western intrusions; the evolution of modern governments in response to industrial and political pressure; and the rise of East Asian economies in the late twentieth century.
