course within the Certification Option (see below).
Certification Option
The Certification Option is offered as professional preparation for those students who wish to teach EFL to adults. Students enrolled in the TESOL Minor may select the Certification Option upon successfully completing 9 hours of core courses in the minor. Students who complete the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA, 120-hours) will be eligible to take an equivalency exam for the following courses:
ENGL 3753 Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) 3 ENGL 4003 Methods for Teaching English as a Second or Foreign Language 3
If a student is unable to complete the CELTA course, they may receive equivalency credit for 3 credit hours by taking an online TEFL certificate (minimum 100 hours) course. The online certificate would stand in place of the following course:
ENGL 3753 Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) 3
Additional credit will not be offered for courses other than those listed above, in the event a student has taken ENGL 3753 or ENGL 4003 prior to selecting the Certification Option. Students selecting this option should develop a plan for completing the certification in cooperation with their academic advisor and the TESOL professor.
