Christian Studies: Apologetics, MA


MA Mission

The joint mission of each of the two MA degree programs offered through Oklahoma Baptist University’s College of Graduate and Professional Studies is to provide each student with a solid foundation in the Christian faith, Christian worldview, and Christian life, and to equip the student to follow his or her respective calling to lead the Church, defend the faith, and reach the world, for the cause of Christ, and glory of God.

Master of Arts in Christian Studies and Intercultural Studies

Bachelor’s degrees from an accredited college or university in the U.S. or foreign equivalent as approved by specific program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. Students with a GPA within the range of 2.0-2.5 may be conditionally accepted into the MACS or MAIS Program at Oklahoma Baptist University. Conditional acceptance is contingent upon maintaining a 2.5 for the first six hours of the students’ program, as well as the potential submission of additional admissions materials, as determined by the program director. These materials may include letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, a resume, or additional academic transcripts.

In Person Courses  
  • The MA in Christian Studies emphasis offers a unique 16 week in-person option available to current students. The in-person courses are stacked with corresponding undergraduate courses. The two levels will meet in conjunction with one another, but MA students will have a separate syllabus with additional assignments, lengthened papers, more rigorous assessments, and/or other learning and teaching opportunities.

Online Courses  
  • Our integrated classes are offered in the traditional graduate format of 8-week online classes.  
Fees
  • Students taking integrated courses will be charged a fee of $100/course.
Limits
  • The MACS and MAIS programs allow up to 12 hours of credit through integrated courses taken during the student’s undergraduate program.
  • Only grades of “C” or better will be accepted.
Advanced Standing for Master of Arts in Christian Studies and Intercultural Studies

Advanced Standing in the Master of Arts in Christian Studies and Master of Arts in Intercultural Studies programs can be granted if a student previously completed a Theology or Ministry degree from a CCCU or IABCU institution with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher.  Upon review of the transcript, up to six hours can be awarded.  

Transfer Credit  

Students may transfer credits toward up to half of the credit for the MACS and MAIS programs, including credits from a completed graduate degree. Transfer credit requests will be carefully evaluated by program directors/academic administration and are not automatically granted. In the case of courses ineligible to be transferred by the routine transfer process, exceptions are rare but are approved administrative actions facilitated by the Academic Dean and voted on by Council for Online, Nontraditional, and Graduate Education.   

Graduation Requirements 
  • For the MACS and MAIS, completion of 36 hours.  
  • Cumulative grade point average of 2.5 in all OBU coursework.  
  • Fulfillment of all financial obligations to the University.  
  • Payment of graduation fee.  
  • Approval by the Council of Online, Nontraditional, and Graduate Education minus student membership.
